Inspiration Behind Innovative Learning Center, LLC

Last year, we used the oculus image illustrated to re-conceptualize the ILC logo. I found the colors warm and vibrant.  I selected the oculus as our logo concept because it reminds me to look up towards my personal mission, which is:

“To ensure that all children in the world have access to high quality formal and informal educational experiences that affirm and unearth their God given talents and abilities towards self-sustaining and fulfilling, abundant, and prosperous lives.”

Know this. When I first wrote this mission statement, I thought, “No way will you accomplish this mission.” Fear and doubt cause all of us to stumble and delay. Therefore, until now, for years, I’ve held the written vision in one of the many books on my nightstand. Recently, I’ve been thinking about how far I’ve come. This week, I realized that although I’ve held the same vision for over 30 years, I’ve kept my head and nose down to the grind. Honestly, this positionality felt safer. I’ve been working so hard on other people’s work–mainly our clients. I had to earn a living. I have three children, who are my primary responsibility.

Our clients and my children have been successful so far. There have been bumps, blunders, and bruises along the way, but we’ve not given up. A huge part of success Is simply trying again the next day. Our aim and purpose are the success of our clients, collaborators, and partners. It is in knowing that when they are successful, children will be successful as well.

Now, I am working on my work so that I can better narrate the inspiration behind starting ILC. Given what I started with, few people, if any, back in the 70s would have ever credited me for being where I am today. Some days, I reflect and wonder too. My final conclusion is that without the grace of God and a lot of hard work, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I am often asked, “What made you start ILC?” My response is always the same, “I did it for my 7-year-old self.”

I look forward to sharing more about my journey and the success of our clients. We wish to collaborate with you to support you toward the success that you see and sense in your minds and hearts.
