Program Development

We all desire to give back especially to those who follow along our path or to those who paved a way for us. Most people initiate the “giving back” process through the launching of something called a “program”. There are countless adjectives to characterize “programs” that involve people committed to making a difference. You might want to launch a mentoring, youth development, out of school time, summer, tutorial, career development or workforce development program.

These programs have a myriad of goals and purposes. For example, the program might be to increase students’ self-esteem, improve students’ motivation towards learning, increase young girls’ interest in science and engineering, or provide guidance to students on avoiding risky behaviors.

At ILC, we have designed and launched 10 programs of our own and have provided evaluation services and support to over 30 programs over the last 18 years.

What have we learned?

We have learned that most programs simply start and continue along an emergent path of development. Is this the best practice? We would say no!

Did you know that your youth development program, for example, should not only consider curricula topics but should also include a detailed plan of action for raising money through a strategic capital development campaign? Did you know that your program should be designed to synchronize with the cultural norms of students or individuals involved?

Did you know that high quality programs should include research and evaluation strategies in the initial design? The initial evaluation strategies can look informal but provide critical information on areas that need to be improved. ILC often conducts implementation evaluations to help programs ensure that they are strong and well prepared for more rigorous evaluation studies.

Innovative Learning Center supports those who aim to foster healthy growth and development of young people by launching what one would commonly call “a program”.  Concepts often overlap with a myriad of goals and frameworks: mentoring, youth development, out-of-school time, summer camps, tutoring, career development, or workforce development programs.  A program could be intended to increase students’ self-esteem, improve students’ motivation towards learning, increase young girls’ interest in science and engineering, or provide guidance to students on avoiding risky behaviors.

Guided by a strategic purpose and a commitment to tracking, verifying and documenting results, our professional team has not only designed and launched 10 programs of our own, but we have also provided evaluation services and support to over 30 programs over the last two decades.

If you are serious about conceiving, designing and implementing a targeted program that successfully addresses the needs in your community, please contact us for an assessment of your situation.
